Iranian revolutionary court sentenced six Ahwazi political activists to death

Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights has learned from its resources that the Iranian Revolutionary Court, 4th branch, has issued death sentences against six Ahwazi political prisoners on Tuesday the 14th of February 2023.

The six prisoners that are in the Ahwaz capital prisons’ Sheyban and Sepidar. The prisoners were denied to allocate any legal representative to defend them in the biased court that issued their death sentences while prisoners were in prison.

The names of six Ahwazi activists sentenced to death and currently in Sheyban and Sepidar prisons are as follows:

1- Ali Mojadam, son of Saleh, born in 1983, from the “Kot Seyed Saleh” neighborhood of Ahwaz capital and is currently in Sheyban prison.

2- Moein Khanfari, son of Israel, born in 1993, from the “Kot Seyed Saleh” neighborhood of Ahwaz capital and is currently in Sheyban prison.

3- Mohammadreza Moghadam, son of Mohammad Ali, born in 1992, from the Fallahiyeh (Shadegan Persian name) city and is currently in Sheyban prison.

4- Sayyed Salem Alboshukeh, was born in 1984, from the city of Fallahiyeh, and is currently in Sepidar prison.

5- Seyed Adnan Ghobishawi (Mousavi), son of Younus, was born in 1996, from the city of Fallahiyeh, and is currently in Sepidar prison.

6- Habib Darris, son of Abdul Amir, born in 1983, resident of the “Ghalat Kanaan” neighborhood of Ahwaz capital and is currently in Sheyban prison.

The Iranian Intelligence service arrested the Ahwazi prisoners in February 2017 and some of them in early 2018. 

The Ahwazi activists were charged with “Moharebeh” (Enemy with God), acting against national security, forming a group, communicating with the abroad groups opposing the regime, and propagandizing against the Islamic regime.

After completing the interrogation in the investigation cells of the intelligence service in Abadan city and then transferred to the 12th branch of the Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office headed by the investigator Kambiz Hashemian, they were charged and their sentence was issued in branch 4 of Ahwaz Revolution Court.

During their detention, all of the prisoners were subjected to severe physical torture and forced confessions were obtained from them through torture, beatings, and threats. 

The basis of the arrest and filing of cases against young prisoners goes back to the killing of two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Abadan, the attack on several military centers, and the killing of a police colonel and another agent in “Khor musa” city (Bander Imam Persian name).

It is worth mentioning that along with these six people, six other Arab citizens were also sentenced to long-term imprisonment, and several others, including two women.

The six other Ahwazi prisoners who were also sentenced to long-term imprisonment are as follows:

1- Faris Amouri (Ramahi), son of Hammoud, 35 years in prison

2-Jasem Alboghbish, son of Mohammad, 15 years in prison

3- Qasim Moghadam (brother of Mohammad Reza Moghadam that was sentenced to death), 5 years in prison

4- Iskandar Moghadam, Hadi’s son, 5 years in prison

5- Raad Maniat, 5 years in prison

6- Tawfiq Maniat, son of Mazhvar, 5 years in prison

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights strongly condemns the Iranian criminal regime’s death sentence and long-term imprisonment issuance against Ahwazi young and calls upon human rights organizations and defenders to stop the Iranian regime’s crimes against defenseless Ahwazi people.
