Another suspicious death of an Ahwazi prisoner by the Iranian occupation regime

Adel Afrawi

An Ahwazi prisoner who was arrested and tortured on security charges months ago, died after posting a bail of 10 billion tomans and being released from prison.

Ahwazi prisoner Mr. Adel Afrawi, who was a member of the Ahwaz Broadcasting Centre, was arrested and tortured barbarically by the Iranian security forces, and after finishing with heinous interrogation and enforced confession, then transferred to Ahwaz capital’s Sheyban prison.

Mr. Afrawi was released from prison after posting a heavy bail of 10 billion tomans (Iranian currency) until the verdict to be issued, but four days ago from writing the current report, despite being in perfect health and having no history of illness, according to the hospital report, he died due to heart complications.

The Iranian occupation regime intelligence service is using dreadful and horrible methods of torture against Ahwazi prisoners in which the released Ahwazi prisoners are dying either by heart attack or committing suicide. The released prisoners were stating that during their stay in the prison, they were injected with suspicious injection, and after being injected the intelligence service will allow them to be released on bail.

It should be noted that during the past years, the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights has witnessed the death of Arab political activists many times after being released from prison or in detention centers and under torture. Among the Ahwazi Arab activists who were killed through these systematic crimes, the centre can mention Hassan Heydari, Atefeh Naami, Ali Asadi, Mehdi Farhani, Abbas Mansouri, and Sattar Sayahi.

Additionally, Mr. Khaled Pirzadeh, an Ahwazi sportsman and athlete who suffered serious injuries to his legs and vertebrae due to severe torture, was released from Sheyban prison while he is unable to walk and, in a wheelchair, after serving 4 years of imprisonment on, Wednesday, 15th of February 2023.
