In Defense of the Teacher Sentenced to Death: Alireza Mardasi, the Embodiment of the Oppression and Resistance of Ahwaz Arab Teachers against the Oppressive Iranian Regime
In the latest link in the chain of systematic repression against the Ahwaz Arab nation, the oppressive Iranian regime has issued a sentence of double execution and one year imprisonment against Alireza Mardasi, a teacher with 25 years of dedicated service in the deprived primary schools of Ahwaz.
This unjust sentence is not only a direct attack on the rights of a devoted and defenseless teacher, but also a clear message from the ruling authority to silence every aware voice in occupied Ahwaz.
Alireza Mardasi, born in 1973 and residing in the Abu Zar neighborhood of Ahwaz, has been a beloved and well-known teacher among his students and colleagues. Throughout his years of teaching, he has served generations of the deprived Ahwaz Arab nation with kindness, commitment, and humanity—a generation suffering for years under poverty, discrimination, repression, and identity destruction.
According to information received by the Ahwaz Human Rights Center – UK, Alireza Mardasi has been detained since August 2023 without access to an independent lawyer and without a fair trial. The confessions attributed to him were obtained under pressure and torture, and his physical health is at serious risk. He suffers from chronic illnesses such as respiratory and digestive problems and has been effectively deprived of medical care during his detention.
Sentencing this Ahwaz Arab teacher to death based solely on fabricated charges such as “corruption on earth” and “propaganda against the regime” is nothing but the government’s strategy to carry out a soft assassination of the teachers, intellectuals, and social activists of the Ahwaz Arab nation.
Alireza Mardasi is not alone. He is the human face of thousands of anonymous teachers and activists whom the oppressive Iranian regime tries to erase from the history and memory of their nation through executions, arrests, and repression.
The Ahwaz Center for Human Rights – UK firmly declares:
We condemn the death sentence against Alireza Mardasi.
We demand the immediate halt of the execution process.
We hold the Iranian regime responsible for the physical and mental health of this captive teacher.
We call upon all international human rights organizations, the United Nations, special rapporteurs, and free media worldwide not to remain silent in the face of this blatant crime.
