Stop Repressive Actions Against Arab Workers at Razi Petrochemical; Demand for Justice in Mashhour (Mahshahr)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ahwaz Human Rights Center \u2013 UK reports that two Arab workers, Ahmad Asakereh and Javad Rashidi, employees of the Razi Petrochemical contracting company in Mashhour (Mahshahr), have taken a dangerous action due to their protests against unfair working conditions and wages. These two workers, following a work ban and the illegal reduction of their wages, were under intense pressure and even attempted suicide by climbing the company’s pipeline due to the critical situation. This action was halted by the timely intervention of fire-fighting forces, the governor, and company officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following this incident, the Free Workers Union issued a statement blaming the repressive actions of the Turkish employer, along with the silence and complicity of the governorate and labor department officials, as the main causes of this crisis, warning that the continuation of this situation could lead to irreparable disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These two workers had previously been arrested due to their union activities and had spent a few days in jail. The workers of Razi Petrochemical, numbering around 1,500, have repeatedly protested against wage discrimination and the non-payment of promised benefits in recent weeks. Despite promises from officials to address their demands, three workers, including Asakereh and Rashidi, have been banned from entering their workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workers of Razi Petrochemical have stated that their main demands are to eliminate wage discrimination and align their wages and benefits with other petrochemical plants in Mashhour. However, security pressures, legal threats, and psychological harassment have escalated their peaceful protests to a critical stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, human rights organizations reported that on August 23, 2025, security forces in Mashhour (Mahshahr) arrested two Arab workers, Ahmad Asakereh and Javad Rashidi, employees of the PetroSaman Avaran Razi contracting company, on charges of union activities and publishing critical content on social media. These organizations also stated that the two workers had previously been arrested on August 20, 2025, by the security unit of Razi Petrochemical and were released with a non-prosecution order. However, following new charges, including publishing protest content online for Asakereh and verbal confrontation with the company\u2019s CEO for Rashidi, they were subjected to severe pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ahwaz Human Rights Center \u2013 UK calls for the immediate and unconditional release of these workers and the cessation of repressive actions against protesting workers in all spheres. The center also urges international authorities to seriously address the violation of workers’ rights and the inhumane treatment of them in Iran and continue supporting workers’ rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
