On Saturday, September 7, 2024, Jaber Sokhravi, an Ahwazi Arab political prisoner held in Sheiban Prison (the central prison) in Ahwaz, was granted a one-month medical leave. According to human rights activists in Ahwaz, Jaber Sokhravi, who suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), had a stroke and, after struggling with life-threatening conditions, was transferred to hospitals outside the prison for treatment several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His medical leave was granted after his condition worsened in recent days. He lost the ability to walk, became unconscious, his mouth became distorted, and he could no longer speak clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jaber Sokhravi, son of Ghamami, is 30 years old and a computer science graduate from Ahwaz. He was arrested by Ahwaz intelligence officers on March 24, 2014, on Khashayar Street in Ahwaz. In the Revolutionary Court of Ahwaz, Judge Shabooni tried him for actions against national security and sentenced him to 14 and a half years in prison. Later, the 16th Branch of the Ahwaz Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Saeed Kosha, overturned the verdict and reduced the sentence to 12 years and 5 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jaber Sokhravi was subjected to severe torture for three months in the intelligence detention center, and on June 17, 2014, due to his deteriorating physical condition, he was transferred to Karun Prison. After Karun Prison was closed, Jaber Sokhravi was moved to Sheiban Prison (Ahwaz Vocational Training Complex), where he remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the intelligence detention center, Jaber Sokhravi was tortured so severely that it paralyzed the right side of his body, and his right leg has now shortened. This Ahwazi Arab activist was tortured with electric batons by intelligence officers, and the marks from the torture and burns are still visible on his back and legs. Due to this severe torture, Jaber suffers from kidney pain, testicular swelling, urinary tract pain, and deteriorating vision. The physical and psychological torture by intelligence officers was so extreme that for two months after being transferred from the intelligence detention center to Karun Prison, he suffered from stomach bleeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
