{"id":3536,"date":"2019-12-29T01:35:14","date_gmt":"2019-12-28T17:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acfh.info\/en\/?p=3536"},"modified":"2019-12-29T01:35:14","modified_gmt":"2019-12-28T17:35:14","slug":"outbreak-of-disease-in-sheiban-prison-in-ahwaz-and-failure-to-respond-to-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acfh.info\/en\/outbreak-of-disease-in-sheiban-prison-in-ahwaz-and-failure-to-respond-to-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Outbreak of disease in Sheiban prison in Ahwaz and failure to respond to families"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By\nHossein Bouazar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prisoners in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz have\ndifficult medical conditions following the outbreak of the flu in the prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prisoner Mehdi Halafi is among those affected\nby the disease, according to the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights\u2019s sources in\nAhwaz.&nbsp; After the family returned to\nprison guard to pursue and help their son, the political prisoner faced a lack\nof accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;This is\nin a situation where more than two inmates of ward 4 of Sheiban prison in Ahwaz\nhave been infected with the disease despite widespread outbreaks of the disease\nthe prison authorities and officials don\u2019t allow inmates to come to the\nhospital. they only allow two people from each room to go to the hospital\ndaily.&nbsp; Failure to respond to prison\nofficials has caused widespread concern among their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mehdi, son of Karim, born in Talboumeh\nvillage, north of Ahwaz, was arrested in 2014 by the Ahwaz Intelligence\nOffice.&nbsp; He was sentenced to 4 years in\nprison at Branch 6 of the Revolutionary Court on charges of moharebeh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Mehdi is\ncurrently held in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile Ahwaz is exposed to a variety of\ndiseases such as cholera and leishmaniasis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mehrdad Sharifi, secretary of the Ahwaz city\nhealth council, said: &#8220;The city of Ahwaz faces an environmental crisis\nafter the overflow of sewage and citizens are exposed to epidemics of various\ndiseases such as cholera and leishmaniasis.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many areas of Ahwaz and Karun city, including Kut Abdullah, have been\nflooded since heavy rains began in Ahwaz and other city within the Al-Ahwaz\nregion on Monday. With continued rainfall in these areas, the sewage overflows\nfrom the water and into the street floor and then into the houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This suburban area south of Ahwaz has been\ntransformed into a residential area after drought without considering the\nnecessary infrastructure, given that it was once a hunting ground and wetland.\nThere is no surface water disposal system in Ahwaz and much of the sewage\nsystem is depleted and the risk of flooding has been at the highest level for many\nyears, leading to a serious crisis and danger to the health of the residents of\nthese areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nauthorities must immediately stop their mismanagement of the water and find a\nsolution to stop this disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We,\nthe Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR), concerns, while Ahwazi Arabs faced\ncontinued oppression and discrimination, the most significant human rights\nissues included a high number of executions for false confession and false\ncrimes without fair trials of individuals. Torture; harsh and life-threatening\nprison conditions; arbitrary detention and imprisonment; of hundreds of\npolitical prisoners, are just few examples of how the Iranian regime violates\nthe human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We, the Ahwazi Centre for\nHuman Rights (ACHR), strongly condemns Iran\u2019s plan to execute Ahwazis. We are\ncalling upon Mr. Javaid Rehman the United Nations special rapporteur for\nsituation of human rights in Iran and Mrs Agnes Callamard the UN special\nrapporteur on extra-Judicial execution to intervene and stopping Iranian\ncriminal regime from executing innocent prisoners that were arrested without\nany legal warrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hossein\nBouazar is a human rights activist from the Ahwaz region in Iran.
