The Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, with 77 votes in favor, passed the 71st resolution against the human rights situation in Iran.

The UN resolution strongly condemned the alarming increase in the use of the death penalty in Iran and called on the Iranian regime to refrain from acts of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment, including sexual and gender-based violence and amputations.
The United Nations also condemned the targeted and severe repression of women and girls by the Iranian regime, both online and in the real world, as well as the lack of accountability and justice for human rights violations against them.
The UN expressed serious concern about discriminatory laws and policies on mandatory hijab in Iran, which undermine the fundamental rights of women and girls.
