Arrest of Ahwazi Teachers

Arrest of Ahwazi Teachers
Nearly a year has passed since the arrest of Aman Jalali-Nejad, a teacher and political detainee, who remains in legal limbo, still held in Ward 5 of Sheyban Prison in occupied Ahwaz. His case has recently been referred back to the city’s prosecutor’s office from Branch 3 of the Ahwaz General and Revolutionary Court due to procedural flaws.
According to Karoun, quoting the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations (occupying Iran), this referral has prolonged the uncertainty of this teacher’s detention, now entering its eleventh month. It is expected that Branch 13 of the Ahwaz General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office will send the case back to court after completing it.
Developments in the case show that in early Bahman (late January), the joint case of Mr. Jalali-Nejad and Mehdi Me’marwas transferred from Branch 4 to Branch 3 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court due to the judge’s absence. Previously, on December 8th, both were tried in Branch 102 of the Ahwaz Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Poursaraj, regarding another part of their case.
According to the Teachers’ Union Council (occupying Iran), Aman Jalali-Nejad has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison by the criminal court, though the specific charges have not been publicly disclosed. Additionally, a source close to Mehdi Me’mar’s family told HRANA that he too was sentenced to six months in prison by the same court.
