Ahwazi detainee Najem Haidari imprisoned after return from Germany

Human rights sources from Al-Ahwaz have reported that Iranian security forces detained Ahwazi citizen Mr. Najem Haidari shortly after his return from Germany in 2021. According to the sources, Haidari had been residing abroad due to difficult conditions faced by Ahwazi refugees, but upon his return, he was immediately taken into custody by the Iranian occupation authorities.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear, but activists state that Haidari was accused of vague security-related charges often used by the Iranian regime against Ahwazi returnees. His family has reportedly received little information regarding his legal status or the conditions of his imprisonment.

Human rights advocates note that Haidari’s case follows a broader pattern of arrests and harsh sentences issued against Ahwazis returning from the diaspora, who are frequently targeted by the Iranian Revolutionary Court and intelligence services upon arrival.

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights and other rights groups have called on the international community to monitor Haidari’s case and to pressure the Iranian authorities to end what they describe as systematic abuses, arbitrary detentions, and politically motivated charges against Ahwazi citizens returning from abroad.
