Arrest of two men in Al-Ahwaz

According to a report quoted to ACHR that the Iranian occupation security intelligence had just raided a house in the village of al-Janadala al-Khazrajiya and arrested Kamal Ismail al-Khazraji on Saturday the 26th of August 2017.

Kamal had just been arrested the month before and released after one week of detainment. Kamal is a 37-year-old Ahwazi civil activist who is married with two daughters.

The security intelligence arrested Kamal in front of his wife and children – using a bag to cover his head before taking him away to an unknown location. The arresting forces stated no reason for arrest.

In similar context that the Iranian occupation security intelligence arrested another Ahwazi man, Hassan al-Haidari Abo Walid, also known as Naim al-Haidari. Hassan was charged with being Sunni and has been subsequently sentenced to prison. He is 37 years old, married and has 4 children. He lives in Al-Thawra neighborhood and is the only provider for his family.

It is worth mentioning that injustice against Ahwazis has become a fixed policy of the Iranian regime. They face double the amount of injustice, as they are Ahwazi Arab as well as Sunni. The Iranian regime is allocating a massive amount of their budget to enforce this escalating crackdown on Ahwazis and Sunnis in the region.

Despite there being no official policy criminalizing Sunnis, it is worth noting that in South Ahwaz on the east coast, modern mosques are not allowed to build and there is no budget to restore the old ones.

However the regime has instead built dozens of prisons to house the many Ahwazis they have incarcerated. Some Ahwazis have the option of paying bail in order to live in society until their trial. However, the cost of bail is hundreds of millions of riyals a year, which most Ahwazis cannot afford. Those who do manage to gather enough funds for bail are often imprisoned after their trial regardless, thereby securing a system in which the only beneficiary is the Iranian regime.
