Imprisonment of 50 Prisoners in a 12-Meter Cell

The solitary confinement cells in Sheiban Prison are in very poor condition. These small cells usually hold large numbers of prisoners.

After the protests in April 2020 in this prison, 50 prisoners were imprisoned in each of these cells for about three months.

The solitary confinement cells of Sheiban Prison are located in Ward 1 of this prison. These cells consist of two rooms three meters by four meters. Previously, there were four small cells in this part of the prison, one and a half meters by two meters. Each current cell is made up of a combination of two previous small cells. This section has the worst conditions among the wards of this prison. The number of prisoners is usually high and the health services are in a very poor condition. There is a toilet in each cell of this ward. Previously, the toilet had no protection, and prisoners were forced to use the toilet in front of each other. Recently, a one-meter wall has been built around the toilet stone, but the presence of toilets in these small rooms still causes a very bad and unbearable odor.

Jassem Heydari, Ali Motiri, Ali Mojaddam, Ali Khosraji and Hossein Silawi were transferred to one of the rooms in this ward a few months ago. In early February this year, the prisoners went on a hunger strike. Ali Motiri was executed a few days later, on January 28, 2021.

We, the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR), concerns, while Ahwazi Arabs faced continued oppression and discrimination, the most significant human rights issues included a high number of executions for false confession and false crimes without fair trials of individuals. Torture; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; arbitrary detention and imprisonment; of hundreds of political prisoners, are just few examples of how the Iranian regime violates the human rights.

We are calling upon Mr. Javaid Rehman the United Nations special rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Iran and Mrs Agnes Callamard the UN special rapporteur on extraJudicial execution to intervene and stop the Iranian criminal regime from executing innocent prisoners that were arrested without any legal warrant.
