An Ahwazi political prisoner released on bail after being paralyzed

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) has received news about Ahwazi political prisoner released from Sheyban prison on bail today Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Mr. Basem Batrani, 28 years old and resident of “Al-Thawrah” (Alavi Persian name) neighborhood of Ahwaz capital was released from Sheyban prison while he was using the wheelchair due to inability to walk on both his feet.

Mr. Bassem Batrani along with brother Mr. Hassan Batrani both were arrested on Monday the 11th of March 2019 under false charges of “Propaganda against the regime” and “connect and membership with opposition group”. Both were subjected to barbaric and heinous torture at the hands of the Iranian occupation regime’s intelligence service.

The brothers were under phycological and physical torture for more than two months just to get enforced confession from them. The brothers are staying in Sheyban prison while their verdict is undecided, and so far no verdict has been issued for them.

Mr. Bassem Batrani was tortured badly in the detention center that led to his legs injuries and finally disabled him for the rest of his life.

Martyr Ali Batrani is another brother of Bassem and Hassan that was shot dead in Ahwazi 2005 uprising that several numbers of Ahwazis were shot dead by the Iranian occupation regime.
