Falahiyeh farmers protest against their non-payment of agricultural losses

Number of Ahwazi (Falahiyeh) farmers gathered in front of the Agricultural Bank Management Office in Ahwaz capital to protest against the non-payment of drought losses, calling for the payment of their corp’s damages from the Khuzestan (part of Al-Ahwaz) Agricultural Products Insurance Fund on Monday 23rd of October 2017.

Executive Director of the Falahiyeh (Shadegan) Farmers’ Union said: ” Falahiyeh farmers have been insuring their land for last 2 years, but the insurance fund does not act against the losses incurred for the formers.”

Houshang Moghamesi in a meeting with IRNA news agency, pointing out that the Khuzestan (part of Al-Ahwaz) Governor’s crisis management department also confirmed the losses incurred by Falahieyh agricultural lands as a result of the drought, said: “The fund has not paid damages to Falahieyh’s farmers despite the acceptance of the drought by Iranian Meteorological Office’s indexes.

Mr. Moghamesi said about 800 Falahieyh farmers insured 12,000 hectares of land and the Khuzestan (part of Al-Ahwaz) Agricultural Insurance Fund also pledged to pay a damages of 20 million Rials per hectare for drought.

“Agricultural lands in Falahieyh city suffer from severe lack of water, which has led to difficult conditions for farmers,” he continued.

The city of Falahieyh in the southwest of Khuzestan (part of Al-Ahwaz) province and 75 km from Ahwaz capital has about 188 villages and three parts.

Falahieyh has more than 57,000 hectares of cultivated land, of which only half of the land is cultivated for some reason, including water shortages
