Death sentences and life imprisonment against Ahwazi Arab activists

According to the Iranian judiciary spokesman “Gholam Hussein Ejehee” that the death sentence issued against three Ahwazi Arab prisoners by the Supreme Court in Tehran on Saturday the 18th of June 2016.

The spokesman during interview with local media called as “Moj” said “the judicial authorities in Ahwaz capital has sentenced seven defendants involved in (military operations!!), and after challenging in the decision the case was referred to the Supreme Court in Tehran and Tehran issued the death sentence against three of them. ”

All detainees are from Hamideyeh city and been arrested in 12th April 2015, and been forced to give forced recognition that been took under barbaric torture in the detention number 14 in the Karoon prison where their confession been recorded by “Press TV” channel after two moths of their arrest.

The Iranian intelligence accused activists of involvement in the assassination of one of three elements of the Revolutionary Guards on 2nd April 2015. The charges accuse them of “enmity against God” and “corruption on earth” through “membership in opposition group.”

The centre has received following details of Iranian court sentences:

1)          Qies Saleh Obeidawi with death sentence,

2)        Ahmed Saleh Obeidawi (Qies brother) with death sentence,

3)        Sajad Hamid Obeidawi with death sentence,

4)        Mohammad Helfi, 25 years old sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment in Yazd city,

5)         Mehdi Abbas Sayahi sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment in Yazd city,

6)        Mehdi Moarabi sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment in Yazd city,

7)         Ali Hassan Obeidawi sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment in Yazd city.

Reliable source quoted to Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) that the four Ahwazi activists that been sentenced to long term imprisonment, been sent to Yazd city late May 2016 where the detainees’ family were unaware of their sons’ displacement.

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights previously in the report that was published on 23th of May 2015, has strongly condemns and denounces any criminal act against the Ahwazi Arab youth by Iranian authorities where the authorities have arrested 20 youth of Hamideyeh city in mid May 2015.

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights condemns the collective death and life imprisonment against Ahwazi Activists by Iranian authorities where these provisions been taken under barbaric torture as well as lack of lack of transparency and legal standards.

The ACHR appealed to all international competent authorities to put pressure on the Iranian regime to stop the implementation of these provisions and to allow the accused appoint a private lawyer to defend them.
